Jazz Catastrophe
Jazz Catastrophe (1992-1993; 2000) was David’s third, and probably most notable, high school band. The band originally formed when keyboardist Rob Potter and drummer Archie Cocke began playing together in 1990. David joined on bass guitar in 1992. The group played under a variety of names throughout this time period, including “The Ravishing Roebucks.” A picture from that gig–where they played a Sears in Lansing, IL–appears on this page (with Dustin Sladcik on guitar).
In late 1992, Randall Stewart joined on guitar, and the group settled on the name “Jazz Catastrophe.” They went on to play a few shows throughout 1993 and record an album on cassette known as A la mode. In 2000, the band, minus Randall, reunited to remaster the album for CD, and they also recorded a few new songs. Since then, the band has again parted ways, although Rob, Archie, and David continue to collaborate occasionally on each others’ individual recordings.
Some of Rob’s most recent solo work (from 2006) can be heard here.
