All about the music of David Durian and Tengram on Duritone Records!

www.duritone.com is back baby!

After a roughly 3 year gap, caused by David forgetting to renew his lease on the domain duritone.com in 2008, duritone.com is now back as our domain! This means that now, both duritone.com and duritone.net are in the possession of Duritone Records. (duritone.net started to be used 3 years ago after we lost duritone.com.) To allow maximum accessibility to be maintained, both duritone.net and duritone.com will now be used as the official domains for Duritone on the web.

Duritone Records turns 20 this month!

leave a comment »

In July, 1991, Duritone Records was started by David Durian in the basement of his parent’s house in Homewood, IL. Beginning with recordings from his first high school band–Psoriasis–Duritone initially started life under the named Canned Records. During the next few years, Canned would release music by other bands Durian played in during his high school and early college years–including Jazz Catastrophe, Bossonova, Gargoyle, and the Durian/Geltzman Projects.

Roughly five years later, Canned would become renamed Duritone Records, during the middle of Durian’s classic run of album releases under the alias Tengram. Since that time, Duritone has continued to operate as the primary record label for all of Durian’s music, whether under the name David Durian or Tengram. In recent years, Durian has slowed down his music making process, as he became heavily focused on completing a PH D in linguistics as well as, in recent times, teaching composition courses. However, Duritone lives on to present the best of his active years, on recent digital releases via Itunes and Amazon.com.

Take a moment to celebrate the 20th anniversary with us!

Duritone partners with ReverbNation for online distribution of Duritone releases

leave a comment »

Later this month, when David Durian’s Harmonia and Tengram’s UltraViolet are released as digital download albums, the releases will be distributed via a partnership between Duritone Records and online distribution label ReverbNation. The distribution deal is similar to the one Duritone participated in during the ’00s with Independent Records for physical CD product distribution/markerting. That is, it is a non-exclusive licensing deal between Duritone and ReverbNation, and is more or less a basic fee-for-services distribution deal. Duritone is pleased to announce this partnership, and we look forward to a successful distribution and marketing run of these albums on ReverbNation.

Coming March 15, 2011 … Harmonia: A User’s Guide to David Durian, 1993-2008 on Duritone Records

leave a comment »

In March, 2011, Harmonia: A User’s Guide to David Durian (1993-2008) [DCD-17] will be released on Duritone Records. Featuring 15 songs recorded by Durian (and assorted guests on a few of the tracks) between 1993 and 2008, the album presents a variety of material from Durian’s Duritone Records releases. After 2 years of various delays–both production-related and personal–the album finally sees release on March 15, 2011. The release will be made available as a digital download on Itunes, and it features cover art created by Toni Keys in 2009 specifically for the album.

The album’s 2011 release is timed to correspond with the 20th anniversary of Duritone Records beginning operation as a record label. (Although it should be noted the official anniversary date is technically not actually until July). More details will be posted soon.
